Breaking Barriers: How Kierra Defied Expectations to Pursue Her Passion
In an exclusive interview with West Georgia Pulse, Kierra Brown, a promising LaGrange model, shares her journey from battling insecurities to gracing magazine covers. Brown, accompanied by her cousin Rick Scott, spoke candidly about her aspirations, struggles, and the path ahead in her modeling career.
Currently employed at Walmart, Brown revealed her ambitions to pursue modeling full-time. “This interview is part of that journey,” she stated, her determination evident. The conversation delved into Brown’s beginnings in the industry.
She’d been modeling since 2019, though inconsistently due to impatience and setbacks like the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, her inspiration came from icons like Tyra Banks and her friend Shakeria. “Tyra Banks was a huge inspiration,” Brown said. “Seeing Shakeria succeed pushed me to try it despite my shyness. She’s incredibly graceful and introduced me to a modeling mentor. My first shoot was for Nike, and people thought I was a Nike model! Over time, I learned to embrace my height and size.” “I’m 5’10’.”
“Being the tallest in class bothered me a bit when I was younger. But as I’ve grown older, I’ve come to embrace my height. Many models are tall, so it’s actually an advantage. Regular workouts keep me motivated and in shape. Overall, I’ve learned to love my height, despite feeling out of place as a child.”
Brown then shared insights into her personal growth, acknowledging her past shyness and insecurities but emphasizing the importance of perseverance and self-belief. “Never give up,” she urged aspiring models, highlighting the power of resilience and self-promotion, especially through Instagram.
“Modeling has definitely boosted my confidence, especially with outside support,” she shared. “People’s encouragement keeps me going, even when I doubt myself. Hearing others proud of my progress means a lot.” Support comes from various sources, including individuals like “Mr. Rick” who recognize her progress. “It’s incredibly uplifting
to receive support from people I don’t even know personally,” Brown said. “Hearing words of encouragement truly boosts my spirits.”
Just before the interview, a friend shared a touching message expressing pride in her achievements.
Despite her own challenges, the friend emphasized that Kierra’s success is a source of joy for both of them. The interview also touched upon Brown’s recent milestone: gracing the cover of Black Urban Magazine.
Recounting the moment she learned about it, Brown expressed disbelief and gratitude. “I submitted photos and they chose me for the front and back cover,” Kierra stated. “It was surreal, and while it hasn’t been officially published, you can preorder it online.”
As the interview wrapped up, Brown offered words of encouragement to fellow models, emphasizing the importance of staying focused on goals despite challenges. She underscored the importance of a supportive network and perseverance in pursuing dreams.
Brown’s true motivators are her family (parents Sherri and Tony, brother Donshay, and sister Shirelle). “I don’t know what I would do without them,” she said. “They were so excited about my magazine cover.” She also expressed appreciation from her friends, especially Lequita Parham, Kelsey Slaton, Shakera Jones, Kristen Howe, and Chris King. “They constantly support and motivate me,” Brown said.
