Keep Douglasville Beautiful Earns Governor’s Circle Award for 2023 Achievements

Douglasville, GA – Recognizing outstanding achievements in community beautification and environmental sustainability, Keep Douglasville Beautiful proudly accepted the 2023 Governor’s Circle Award. Bestowed by the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation (KGBF), the award applauds the organization’s exemplary performance in litter reduction, waste minimization, and community greening.

To qualify for this prestigious accolade, affiliates must maintain certification and good standing with Keep America Beautiful (KAB), the national nonprofit overseeing state and local programming. Additionally, active membership in the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation (KGBF) network is a prerequisite. Certified KAB affiliates are mandated to address community needs in litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, and beautification, effecting meaningful, positive, and lasting change.

Natalie Johnston-Russell, executive director of the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, expressed the significance of the award, stating, “We believe everyone deserves to live in a clean, green, and beautiful environment. The recipients of this award have made a tremendous effort to achieve that vision, and we’re thrilled to recognize their achievements.”

In 2023, Keep Douglasville Beautiful reached significant milestones in community and environmental stewardship. The Adopt-A-Road program showcased remarkable community engagement, with 170 dedicated volunteers contributing over 46.5 hours, collecting an impressive 1,492 pounds of trash.

This effort saved taxpayers a substantial $8,553.31. The recycling event, held in both Fall and Spring and supported by 23 volunteers and 525 participants, resulted in the responsible recycling of 32,720 pounds of metals and electronics. The Bring One for the Chipper event allowed the recycling of 215 Christmas trees.

The organization also actively hosted various community events, including the MLK Day of Service, Church St. Farmers Market, and Spring and Fall Downtown Planter Refresh days. These collective endeavors underscore Keep Douglasville Beautiful’s commitment to a positive impact on both the environment and the communities they serve.

Chan Weeks, executive director of Keep Douglasville Beautiful, expressed gratitude for the award, stating:

“We are honored to receive the Governor’s Circle Award for our team’s dedication to a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful community. We owe much of our success to our wonderful volunteers and cannot thank them enough for helping reduce litter, minimize waste, and green our community.”
