Douglasville, GA – The City of Douglasville is excited to announce the launch of “A Dose of Douglasville,” a 10-week Citizens Academy designed to empower residents by providing an in-depth understanding of the city’s government structure and services. This innovative program aims to equip participants with the knowledge, resources, and tools necessary to become informed community members and effective neighborhood leaders.

Program Overview

Beginning on September 10, 2024, the Citizens Academy will offer weekly sessions every Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., culminating in a graduation ceremony on November 18. The program is structured to give participants a comprehensive overview of the various city departments, their functions, and their impact on the quality of life in Douglasville.

City staff, experts in their respective fields, will lead interactive sessions covering a range of topics, including local government operations, public services, economic development, public safety, and more. By the end of the program, graduates will have a solid understanding of how the city operates and how they can play an active role in shaping the future of their neighborhoods and the broader Douglasville community.

Program Objectives

The primary objectives of “A Dose of Douglasville” include:

  • Introducing participants to key city leaders and staff.
  • Providing citizens with the information and materials needed to understand the functions of local government departments.
  • Helping residents navigate the often complex government processes and services.
  • Fostering a closer working relationship between Douglasville residents and their local government.

Eligibility and Registration

The program is open to all Douglasville residents, business owners, and workers aged 18 and older. With space limited to 20 participants, selection will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is currently open through August 23, 2024, or until all spots are filled. Applicants will be notified of their selection during the week of August 26, 2024.

Cost and Commitment

The Citizens Academy is free of charge. The only investment required is the participant’s time, effort, and commitment to attend the sessions and engage in the learning process.
